Greetings, peoples.
So it begins.
…If you didn’t get that reference, there’s no hope for you.
First of all, while I am technically Procrastinating™️, I am also not behind on anything and am not in a position (I think…I hope) to fall behind on anything. Therefore, writing this post is not procrastinatory of me. Or, perhaps it is and I’m performing a complicated stunt of justification to weasel my way out of it. No matter.
Week 6 has arrived, and woe are we. Our 2000-word Augustine papers are due this Friday, we have about 3 rhetoric assignments (which is a lot for rhetoric), and various other things to get done. Finals are week-after-next, but it’s a little hard to start thinking about studying for those when we have more homework and new lessons next week. But, the sophomores survived it, so I’m sure we will too. As Dr. Rigney would say, we just need to think: “What Would I Do If I Were Full Of Jesus?”
The most exciting thing that has happened this week so far is that on Sunday night there was a party (party is a strong word, since most of the gatherings around here don’t have a “party” atmosphere, more like a “festive gathering” atmosphere) at one of the local houses called the Shire. There were quite a lot of people there, mostly freshmen but also some upperclassmen, and it was hosted by the guys who live at the Shire. It was hobbit-themed, so most of them were dressed up as hobbits (which was hilarious, especially as some of them were tall and skinny and un-hobbit-like). The festivities consisted of a hymn and prayer, dinner, a bonfire, and then several hours of hanging out and chatting with sundry people. Two guitars were floating around and there were songs sung around the campfire, though unfortunately yours truly did not know 99% of them because apparently I “don’t listen to any music” and “should listen to country” {no}. (I would beg to differ. My music taste is, in fact, amazing. All 15 bands I listen to.) However, we did end the night with a rousing rendition of Old Neptune, He’s Roaring, which was a great choice (mostly because I actually knew it).
Tomorrow I am once again making the terrible, awful, no-good, very bad decision to wake up at 6:00 in the AM to go to the gym with my roommates and lift weights. Why do I do this? I don’t know, something about “it’s good for me” and “pain is weakness leaving the body” and it also kind of sucks to be pretty sure that I had more arm strength at age 8 than age 18.
So far my refusal to get addicted to coffee has been holding out fairly well, though I probably need to take a break soon. Thankfully, I have never had more than 2 coffees in a day (and by 2 coffees, I mean 2 small mugfulls, not 2 store coffees) and I have not yet had coffee later than 2:30 PM. (Thankfully I’m a night owl, so I wasn’t going to bed anyway, so it didn’t mess up my sleep.)
It’s starting to get very cold at night and I had to borrow a fleece blanket from my roommate because I was fuh-REE-zing. Life hack: if you put your fleece blanket under the covers and wrap yourself up in it like a sleeping bag, you’ll be infinitely warmer than if you just put it on top of all your other covers. This is why animals have fur. It works, guys, it works.
Song of the Week: September by Earth, Wind & Fire. (Because we just had the 21st of September, obviously.)
Well, I must needs go to bed now. I have no idea what this blog looks like to you lowly readers but hopefully it’s at least somewhat coherent. I’ll probably try to write stuff once a week, twice if I’m ambitious and/or procrastinating (I type quickly).
Adios amigos!
